Things to note when selecting fiberglass tape

Nov 07, 2025

Adhesive tape is a common item in our daily lives. Since its invention, tape has evolved into a wide variety of types, including transparent tape, high-temperature tape, double-sided tape, insulating tape, and specialty tape. It can also be categorized by the base material used, such as cloth-based tape, tissue tape, masking tape, PET tape, and BOPP tape.

To meet the needs of industrial production and daily life, fiberglass tape was invented. Unlike photo tape, fiberglass tape is made from PET, reinforced with polyester fibers, and coated with a special hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesive, resulting in exceptional strength. Consequently, fiberglass tape possesses excellent tensile strength, friction resistance, high temperature resistance, solvent resistance, insulation, and flame resistance.

Features and advantages of fiber tape:
1. Strong breaking strength, resists breaking easily;
2. Excellent moisture resistance, unlike ordinary tape, which loses its adhesive properties when exposed to water;
3. High tensile strength and deformation resistance, no deterioration, and no foaming;
4. High adhesion, capable of bonding a wide range of materials;
5. Easy to use, compatible with handheld tools for increased work efficiency.

Common applications for fiber tape:
1. Carton sealing and packaging: Single-sided fiber tape offers strong sealing and reinforcement, strong shear resistance, and high tensile and adhesive strength, transforming traditional packaging methods and reducing overall packaging costs for customers.
2. Heavy object bundling: Compared to other bundling methods, the inherent strength and adhesion of high-strength tape not only ensure that heavy objects remain secure during long-distance transportation but also prevent components from tipping over during subsequent transportation, installation, and handling.
3. Construction: For applications such as door and window seals, double-sided fiber mesh tape is a crucial component of EPDM seals, ensuring the EPDM adheres to doors and windows for extended periods.

4. Home appliance industry: In addition to the packaging of home appliances, residue-free tape can also be used for the temporary fixation of home appliances. For example, the plastic pallets in refrigerators will not be damaged by shaking during transportation after being fixed with residue-free fiberglass tape, and no residual glue will be left when removed.

What should I pay attention to when identifying fiber tape?
1. Color: Fiber tape itself is mostly composed of a transparent PET polyester base film and white glass fiber yarns, coated with a high-performance pressure-sensitive adhesive.
2. The overall color is off-white. To minimize costs, some manufacturers use low-quality glue, which is less stable and easily ages and turns yellow.
3. Fiber tape is generally recommended to be used after about six months and should be stored in a well-ventilated, dry environment at room temperature (around 25°C).
4. Adhesive surface flatness: An uneven surface will result in uneven adhesive distribution, causing wrinkling and rebounding during use.
5. Yarn straightness: Yarn straightness directly affects the tensile strength of the fiber tape, which can have serious consequences for the current heavy-duty packaging and strapping industry, especially for steel strapping.
