Where are wire mesh and alkali-resistant mesh used in exterior wall insulation?

Dec 28, 2025

Aerated blocks are used for the wall. A sprayed interface agent is applied, followed by a full coverage of wire mesh. This serves as a foundational treatment for the wall structure, preventing future thermal expansion and contraction, and preventing hollowing and cracking in the plaster layer. Mesh is used for full-coverage, achieving wall flatness, strengthening surface adhesion, and consolidating the base layer. Steel mesh is typically used at the junction of newly constructed and existing walls during renovations, and can also be used to reinforce lightweight walls. Mesh is suitable for a wide range of applications.

Wire mesh is metal; mesh is fiber, and they are made of different materials. Both are used at the joints between two different wall plasters to prevent cracking. In graphical quantity calculations, the project quantities can generally be viewed directly in the report.

Wire mesh and mesh cloth each have their own uses!

General exterior wall construction methods:

1: Wire mesh should be laid at the junction of the concrete exterior wall and the masonry blocks. The length of each side should not be less than 1/4" (the length of each side should be less than 1/4"). If the wall is a panel wall, wire mesh is not required (wire mesh is used at the corners).

2: Interface mortar or regular mortar is applied.

3: Exterior wall insulation (polystyrene board, polystyrene granules, inorganic mortar).

4: Wire mesh or mesh cloth is applied throughout the wall. (Depending on the design requirements, wire mesh is generally used for exterior tiling and mesh cloth for paint). (The corners here use the same materials as the larger area, based on the design requirements.)

5: The final coat is crack-resistant mortar.
