Fiberglass mesh primarily helps prevent cracking. If using a product with better self-cracking resistance, follow the proper treatment method. First, check the putty layer for water resistance and powder shedding. A simple procedure is to lightly sprinkle water on the wall and rub it gently with your hands to ensure no noticeable powder shedding. If severe powder shedding occurs, remove it completely down to the cement mortar surface. At this point, a primer treatment is required. The primer's primary function is to solidify and seal the surface. Then, apply a thick screed, followed by a fine screed. At this point, you can choose wallpaper, latex paint, or diatomaceous earth as the finishing layer. In modern decoration, the surface is no longer the most important factor; the key lies in the overall stability of the base layer. Water resistance and high strength ensure the durability and stability of the decorative surface.
Energy-saving buildings now require exterior wall insulation plastering to prevent cracking. Because dry-mix insulation mortar has low strength and a thickness of 30mm, it's prone to cracking. Therefore, mesh cloth must be added as a topcoat. The mesh cloth is woven from medium-alkali or alkali-free glass fiber yarn and coated with an alkali-resistant polymer emulsion. New homes are typically not built long after handover, so wall settlement is limited. At this time, lightweight walls, beams, and joints with load-bearing walls can develop slight cracks as settlement progresses. For lightweight walls, kraft paper or Dacron cloth can be used. Corner joints can be treated with perforated kraft paper strips. Mesh tape is generally used to address larger gaps. Older homes typically have brick or sand-plaster walls, which are particularly prone to cracking. Because bricks allow for air flow, cracking is unavoidable. Using methods such as patches can delay the appearance of cracks, but it cannot guarantee that there will be no cracks at all.
