What are the characteristics and advantages of fiberglass tape?

Oct 28, 2025

Common fiberglass tapes are made of high-strength fiberglass yarn and a reinforced PET film backing, coated on one side with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Both high-viscosity and low-viscosity fiberglass tapes are manufactured in this manner.

Fiberglass tape uses PET film as the backing for the fiberglass yarn and hot-melt adhesive as the adhesive. Fiberglass tapes offer exceptional breaking strength and moisture resistance. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer provides long-lasting adhesion and special properties, resulting in high adhesion, stable adhesive properties, and no residual adhesive residue. They come in two types: striped and grid. Striped tapes are neatly arranged in stripes, while grids are grid-like, like a net. These tapes can meet a variety of different needs.

Fiberglass tape is widely used in industrial production and boasts exceptional high-temperature resistance. It's made from high-strength glass fiber yarn or cloth reinforced with a polyester (PET) film, coated on one side with a strong, pressure-sensitive adhesive. The tape boasts exceptionally high tensile strength, excellent abrasion resistance, and moisture resistance, making it suitable for heavy packaging, bundling, securing steel plates, and temporarily securing home appliances. It leaves no adhesive residue.

Common fiberglass tape types include: striped fiberglass tape, mesh fiberglass tape, and double-sided fiberglass tape.

Fiberglass tape has the following characteristics:
1. Using high-strength glass fiber yarn or cloth as a reinforcement, it boasts exceptionally high tensile strength, making it a high-strength tape that resists breaking.
2. Using a pressure-sensitive adhesive, the tape boasts exceptionally strong adhesion, resulting in excellent packaging performance and resistance to loosening.

3. It has extremely strong breaking strength and moisture resistance, and its adhesive properties are stable, preventing debonding and leaving no adhesive stains or discoloration on the surface.
4. It has a neat appearance and is most commonly colorless and transparent.

Therefore, it has been widely used for heavy packaging, component securing, or bundling in the furniture, wood, steel, shipbuilding, machinery, and electrical appliance industries, as well as insulation bonding and positioning in the electronics industry.

It has the following applications:
1. Packaging household appliances and metal and wooden furniture, such as washing machines, refrigerators, and freezers. Fiberglass tape is an upgraded version of Scotch tape, belonging to the 2.0 or 3.0 system. It is designed for strong packaging and auxiliary packaging, with strong adhesion, resistance to debonding, and long-term use without residue.
2. For wrapping heavy metal objects and steel, fiberglass tape, due to its special properties, is strong and unbreakable, making it a suitable alternative to rope.
3. For securing large electrical appliances, fiberglass tape, with its strong adhesion, tensile strength, and wear resistance, is extremely effective in sealing large appliances and preventing them from opening during transportation. It is also reusable.
4. For securing and connecting furniture and work tools, it is strong, unbreakable, and durable.
