Epoxy resin is an important type of thermosetting plastic, widely used in adhesives, coatings, and other applications. Also known as artificial resin, resin glue, etc. Epoxy resins are thermosetting epoxy polymers. Most artificial resins are produced by the chemical reaction of epichlorohydrin (C3H5ClO) and bisphenol-A (C15H16O2).
What is unsaturated resin? The earliest resin discovered by humans was a fat-like substance extracted from the secretions of trees. This is the reason why there is "tree" before "fat".
A fusible resin that can be heated, melted, cooled, and solidified repeatedly is called a thermoplastic resin. A resin that is no longer reversible after being heated and solidified, and becomes a solid that neither dissolves nor melts, is called a thermosetting resin, such as phenolic resin, epoxy resin, unsaturated polyester resin, etc.
In summary, epoxy resin contains diepoxy groups and requires an amine-based curing agent to participate in the curing reaction. The performance of the final product is very different from that of the curing agent. However, in general, the final cured product of epoxy resin is harder and stronger than the cured product of unsaturated polyester resin. Of course, the price of epoxy resin is twice that of unsaturated polyester resin. Generally, unsaturated polyester resin is chosen for artificial stone because it is cheap. For flooring and anti-corrosion coatings, epoxy resin is chosen because of its better performance.
